CORE to facilitate Urban Agriculture agenda

A successful “Advancing Urban Agriculture Thought Leaders” forum was conducted in Brisbane during International Compost Awareness Week. The thought leaders forum was attended by a cross section of stakeholders including representatives from the Queensland Government, NGOs, organics recycling industry, agriculture advisers and media personality Costa Georgiadis.

As an outcome of the forum CORE will facilitate the Advancing Urban Agriculture Program to accelerate the development of this emerging opportunity. During the forum presenters showcased existing and planned projects and listed barriers and concerns that need to be addressed. The opportunities from Urban Agriculture extend beyond the obvious benefits such as food security, healthy communities and organics utilisation, but also includes training, employment, economic and water management benefits. Key messages were resilience and livability for communities.
